A Word from the Rector

Christian Atheist or Atheist Christian?
How do you define yourself? Are you an Episcopalian? Or an Anglican? Or a Christian? Or a non-believer?

Jesus said: “By their fruit ye shall know them”. I don’t think that he was kidding…..

It has been my experience in long years in the Church that what matters alone is how God evaluates us. Yet, God is sometimes hard to find in church……and at other times he is powerfully evident there.

So….how can we distinguish the Christians from the atheists? By their fruits…..

In my experience there are people among us who say they do not believe in God, yet their lives can be inspiring examples of the presence of God’s Spirit within them. And I have met too often in the church active members whose behavior shows not much evidence of Jesus Christ in their attitudes. The first are Atheists Christians; the second are Christian Atheists. We can be church attendees all of our lives but if we do not fear God and treat his people with the love of Christ, we are living a lie. If we are self-centered and not becoming more Christ-centered all the time……who is it that we serve?

By our fruits we shall be known. And God is our judge…and he is no fool. Thoughts from our Rector, Doug Cockbill
